
It seems that engineers at the University of Utah have developed a new method of processing which uses perforated sheets of metal to control processing. This new way of processing has produced some pretty promising results. The engineers claim that in about 10 years we could see processing speeds go to a full terahertz. Current tests using this new method have already produced processing speeds of about 300 gigahertz.
Computing advancement still showing no signs of slowing down, now if we combine terahertz processing into multi-core systems, we'll have desktops that run like supercomputers!

There's Light in Them There Walls

That's right, lights in the walls, or as they are calling it. Light emitting wallpaper, as designed by Jonas Samson. A Tad Bit Unnecessary

Only a few months ago, the University of Michigan laser, nicknamed HERCULES, was shown with an impressive 300 terawatts of power.
Well it appears as though the title of most powerful laser wasn't meant to be owned by University of Michigan for very long. The University of Texas at Austin has apparently created a laser that will have a power level of 1 petawatt, yep that 1000 terawatts. Just keep in mind that the power usage of your standard 60 Watt light bulb is about 16,700,000,000 times less output than this lasers potential output.
The power of this laser is 2000 times larger than the entire United States power generation capability. It would be brighter than the Sun, if you were walking on the surface of the sun. The only down side, the laser lasts only one tenth of a trillionth of a second.
The one question that I come up with is... Why? Not sure how this will be of great importance in the near future, but I'm sure they'll find a use for it... Death Ray anyone?

The Huge... Scratch that, Tiny Blackhole
NASA has just discovered the smallest known black hole. The black hole discovered using the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer, a small satellite placed in orbit in 1995.
The black hole is only 3.8 times the mass of our own sun and is part of a binary system comprised of this black hole and an orbiting star. This is extremely small, about half of the mass of the previous record holder and billions of times smaller than the largest black holes.
If Einsteins theories hold true a black hole with a mass 3.8 times that of our sun, would only be 15 miles across; the size of a city.
